I think most new photographers wonder what’s in other’s camera bag? Do they use a lens I don’t? Do they know about a fancy modifier than makes their life easier? Do they use 10 different lenses? What’s in the big suitcase they carry behind them?
I especially had these questions when I was first starting out, and now that I have my own simple system- I stick to it, love it, and could care less what my photog peers have or don’t have! I mean that in the nicest way possible! lol
In the last 3 years, I have bought just as much gear as I have sold. I wasted a ton of money on lenses that I thought I needed, but just sat in my camera bag for months at a time. I bought gear on what I thought would change my business, but in reality, just weighed my bag down!
So here is what I have narrowed my arsenal down to, and it has completely simplified my life, and changed my business!
So here it is!!

This is a hella lot of gear… I know.. But I didn’t purchase it all at once! I started with a Nikon D3100 camera body and a 50mm1.8 lens. Thats it. Both super affordable and will be a great start to your photography business! I hustled HARD and every time I got paid for sessions, I saved up so that I would never go in the red.
My biggest tip: If you are hoping to get into the wedding photography biz.. start with your first 6 months to a year by shooting portraits of every type, invest in education, and save every dime to get you great gear and flash systems, so that you can provide a quality product to your brides and families!
I will have a future blog post about why I have each lens, gear that I wasted money on, what lens I use for each part of the wedding day, my simple flash system for every reception, and many many more! Stay tuned my friends!
